The deity Atsuta-no-Okami is Amaterasu with the Kusanagi sword, one of the three sacred treasures of the imperial regalia, as its sacred object. The grounds of about 190,000 m2 are thick with trees, including camphor trees said to be over 1,000 years old. The treasure hall holds more than 6,000 offerings, over 170 of them designated cultural properties. The white lighthouse at its tip is the symbol of the cape; from here you can see Kamishima, the setting of Mishima Yukio's novel "The Sound of Waves". No photo yetNagoya, AichiChubu Electric Power MIRAI TOWER (Former Nagoya TV Tower)Built in 1954 in Hisaya-odori Park as the Nagoya TV Tower, 180 m high, Japan's first integrated broadcasting tower; it predates Tokyo Tower (1958) and the Sapporo TV Tower (1957), and is a national Important Cultural Property. It was renamed "Chubu Electric Power MIRAI TOWER" on May 1, 2021. It has lawns, water play areas, a 5.1 km cycling course and nature play equipment. The Aichi Children's Center is a four-storey building full of play equipment, and "Mori no Manabiya" offers nature experiences and crafts. Ghibli Park opened within the park on November 1, 2022. Built in 1898 as a beer factory, it was designed by Tsumaki Yorinaka, one of the three great architects of the Meiji period. Its hollow double walls and multi-arch floors are very rare today, and it is a registered Tangible Cultural Property and Heritage of Industrial Modernization. It is said to have been built in 1537 by Oda Nobuyasu, uncle of Oda Nobunaga. Until 2004 it was the only privately owned castle in Japan. The keep, of the lookout type with three roofs, four floors and two basement levels, is the oldest surviving style in Japan. A corridor around the top floor looks out over the Kiso River, Mt. Inuyama escaped war damage, so both the castle and the town keep the "sogamae" layout of a fortified town; old townhouses line the streets, now home to cafes and shops selling crafts. Its eight themed areas use about 17 million LEGO bricks and about 10,000 LEGO models, with more than 40 attractions, shows and theatres. Horaiji, famous for autumn leaves, is known as home of the Japanese scops owl, the prefectural bird called the "voice of the Buppouso"; the whole mountain is a national Place of Scenic Beauty and Natural Monument. It is a sacred mountain said to have been opened 1,300 years ago by the hermit Rishu, with the old temple Horaiji halfway up. The approach from the foot has 1,425 stone steps, with sights such as the Kasa-sugi cedar, about 800 years old and 60 m tall. No photo yetNagoya, AichiNagoya Castle and Hommaru PalaceConstruction began in 1610 under Tokugawa Ieyasu as the last step toward unifying the country; it was the residence of the Owari Tokugawa family, one of the three Tokugawa branch houses. Most buildings were destroyed in the air raid of May 1945, and only 6, such as the southwest and southeast corner turrets, survive from the Owari domain era. The five-storey main keep with golden shachi and the small keep were rebuilt in 1959. The Hommaru Palace, once the first castle building designated a National Treasure, was restored faithfully from records, drawings, old photos and wall paintings from 2009 and completed in 2018.Official check: 26 Sept 2026

It has a permanent exhibition with his manuscripts, diaries, letters and dioramas of his works, and a library. Noritake Garden opened on the head factory grounds for the company's centenary, with a centre introducing Noritake's history and technology, a Craft Center where bone china is made, and a museum of Meiji vases and tableware from the Taisho and Showa periods. On the "Pottery Footpath", chimneys, kilns and factories remain, making it a popular route to tour industrial heritage, and cafes, galleries and shops selling goods have increased. No photo yetNishio, AichiSakushima IslandAn island floating almost in the middle of Mikawa Bay, about 25 minutes by boat from Isshiki Port, with calm beaches and coastline, walking paths through the hills and villages of black-walled houses. What made it famous is the artworks displayed all over the island, such as "Ohiru-ne House", a black box modelled on the black walls of the west village, where you listen to the waves. The railway diorama themed "24 hours of the railway" recreates the scenery along the Tokaido Shinkansen in detail. JR Central's superconducting maglev is shown with a real record-setting vehicle and explanations of how it floats and moves, and you can try a simulated 500 km/h ride. Surveys have found 238 species of higher plants in 65 families growing wild, and the island itself is a national natural monument. You can walk around it on paths and rocks in about 30 minutes. It has two main parts: the Textile Machinery Pavilion, in a Taisho-era spinning factory, and the Automobile Pavilion, a 7,900 m2 hall with working machines and demonstrations by operators. It shows costumes and props used in the drama, local feature panels and original videos, with a museum shop of Nagoya souvenirs and an exhibit on "Sengoku meals x Nagoya meals". No photo yetInuyama, AichiUrakuen Garden (National Treasure Tea House Joan)Home of the National Treasure tea house "Joan", built by Oda Urakusai, a great tea master born in Owari, one of the three existing National Treasure tea houses with Taian and Mittan. It was moved east of Inuyama Castle in 1972 and set in a garden recreating as far as possible the one it had in Kyoto. Once a month an interior viewing is held (by reservation). No photo yetHanda, AichiYakachi River (Red Spider Lilies)Handa is the birthplace of Niimi Nankichi, author of the famous children's story "Gongitsune", used in school textbooks; the countryside around the Yakachi River, the story's setting, looks just like the tale. Every year in late September more than 3 million red spider lilies, grown by local people, bloom along about 1.5 km of the river banks, covering them like a red carpet.
