Nishio, Aichi / 佐久島
Sakushima Island
An island floating almost in the middle of Mikawa Bay, about 25 minutes by boat from Isshiki Port, with calm beaches and coastline, walking paths through the hills and villages of black-walled houses. What made it famous is the artworks displayed all over the island, such as "Ohiru-ne House", a black box modelled on the black walls of the west village, where you listen to the waves. Jomon pottery shards and Yayoi-period shell mounds have been found in the island's strata, and about 50 ancient burial mounds are scattered across it.

From Meitetsu Nishio Station, Meitetsu Tobu Kotsu bus (Isshiki line) to Isshiki Sakana Hiroba / Sakushima boat pier, then about 25 minutes by Nishio city high-speed boat to Sakushima (east or west port).
