Tahara, Aichi / 恋路ヶ浜
Koijigahama Beach
A white sandy beach curving along the Pacific for about 1 km from Irago Cape Lighthouse to the Hinode no Sekimon rock arch, shaped by rough waves. The name has a long history and appears in Edo-period waka poems; it is said to come from a legend of noble lovers who fled here from the capital. It is also known as the setting of Shimazaki Toson's lyric poem "Yashi no Mi" (The Coconut).
