Toyone, Aichi / 茶臼山高原
Chausuyama Highland
On the border of Aichi and Nagano, Mt. Chausu (1,416 m) is the highest peak in the prefecture, and the highland around it has pastoral scenery. On the "Shibazakura Hill" near the top of Mt. Hagitaro (1,358 m), 400,000 moss phlox plants bloom over 22,000 square metres from early May to mid-June, in seven kinds including pink and white. From spring to autumn there are go-karts, mountain bikes and canoes, and in winter the only ski area in Aichi opens, with a sledging slope, a snow play area and a moving walkway (on weekends and holidays skiing only).

By car, about 2 hours from Nagoya IC or Toyokawa IC (Tomei Expressway). By train, from JR Nagoya change at Toyohashi to the JR Iida Line to Toei Station, then take the Kyukamura shuttle bus to the Kyukamura stop (the shuttle must be booked in advance; first 8 passengers).
