- No photo yetGyoda, SaitamaGyoda Haniwa WorkshopA workshop in the Sakitama Kofun Group where anyone, from children to older people, can make their own haniwa with help from instructors. After 90-120 minutes of shaping, the pieces dry for about a month and are fired in the kiln at 800 degrees for about 7 hours; you collect them later or have them delivered. It is said to have been built in 1476 by Nagao Kageharu, and was expanded to its present size by Hojo Ujikuni, fourth son of Hojo Ujiyasu of Odawara. In Toyotomi Hideyoshi's attack on Odawara it was besieged by Maeda Toshiie and Uesugi Kagekatsu; after holding out for over a month it surrendered on condition the garrison was spared, and was abandoned. In the early Showa period more than 70 shops stood here, making and wholesaling sweets; today about 20 make and sell peppermint candy, kintaro-ame and inventive old-fashioned sweets, and adults and children alike can enjoy the nostalgic atmosphere. - No photo yetKawagoe, SaitamaKawagoe Kurazukuri Townscape and Toki-no-Kane Bell TowerKawagoe still keeps its "kurazukuri" townscape of clay-walled storehouse buildings, an ingenious fireproof style developed as Edo townhouses to stop fires spreading; it preserves a look of Edo that can no longer be seen in Tokyo. It was selected as a national Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in December 1999. The Toki-no-Kane bell tower, said to have first been built between 1627 and 1634 by Sakai Tadakatsu, lord of Kawagoe Castle, has told the time since the early Edo period and is the symbol of "Koedo" Kawagoe; the present three-storey tower, about 16 m high, was rebuilt in the year after the great fire of 1893. - No photo yetHidaka, SaitamaKinchakuda Manjushage ParkKinchakuda was formed by a meander of the Koma River in Hidaka, and is named for its shape like a drawstring purse (kinchaku). On this flat land about 500 m across and 22 ha, surrounded by the river, flowers such as rape blossoms and cosmos bloom by season; above all, in autumn the red spider lily (manjushage) colony turns the whole area crimson like a red carpet.Official check: 26 Sept 2026

As Musashi Ichinomiya it draws worshippers from all over the Kanto region, and many come at New Year. The grounds cover about 30,000 tsubo, and the approach runs about 2 km from the first torii on the Nakasendo. Centred on woodland with ponds, wetlands and grasslands, it is home to rare plants and animals. Built on low wetland between the Tone and Ara rivers using islands and natural levees, it was praised as impregnable. At Hosohara the river turns 180 degrees to form a peninsula-like landform, with beautiful red pine woods. The town's name comes from Dr. Seiroku Honda, Japan's first doctor of forestry, who remarked that the scenery looked very like Kyoto's Arashiyama. It includes the Inariyama Kofun, where the National Treasure gold-inlaid iron sword was found, and Marubakayama Kofun, one of Japan's largest round mounds and the park's top cherry spot, best in early April; Ishida Mitsunari set up camp on its summit.
