Gyoda, Saitama / さきたま古墳公園
Sakitama Kofun Park
A park with nine large burial mounds of the Sakitama Kofun Group, a national Special Historic Site. It includes the Inariyama Kofun, where the National Treasure gold-inlaid iron sword was found, and Marubakayama Kofun, one of Japan's largest round mounds and the park's top cherry spot, best in early April; Ishida Mitsunari set up camp on its summit. The name Sakitama is said to be the origin of the prefecture name Saitama, and a monument marks it. At the Haniwa-no-Yakata you can make your own haniwa.
