Ranzan, Saitama / 嵐山渓谷
Ranzan Gorge
One of Saitama's representative scenic spots, with rock terraces, the clear Tsuki River and rich woods. At Hosohara the river turns 180 degrees to form a peninsula-like landform, with beautiful red pine woods. The town's name comes from Dr. Seiroku Honda, Japan's first doctor of forestry, who remarked that the scenery looked very like Kyoto's Arashiyama. The autumn leaves are usually best from mid-November to early December.
