- No photo yetAizumi, TokushimaAi no Yakata (Indigo Museum)Aizumi Town's history museum, opened in 1989 when 13 buildings of the former Okumura residence, a great indigo merchant, and 130,000 Okumura family documents were donated to the town, and renewed in 2022. It preserves the national Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property "Awa indigo cultivation and processing tools" and the Okumura residence, and explains the history and trade of indigo and the process from growing it to making sukumo and dyeing, with paper figures and tools actually used. - No photo yetTokushima, TokushimaAwa Jurobei Yashiki (Puppet Theatre House)The site of the house of Bando Jurobei, an Edo-period village headman who was the model for the puppet play "Keisei Awa no Naruto", where you can enjoy "Awa Ningyo Joruri", a national Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. Puppet plays are performed every day on an open stage modelled on the outdoor "rural stages" found at many Tokushima shrines, and exhibits and videos of puppet heads, costumes and the chanters' and shamisen players' tools tell its history. In the 2nd-floor hall, the resident troupe "Awa no Kaze" performs four times a day for about 40 minutes (with a chance to try dancing), and at night famous troupes perform daily for 50 minutes. - No photo yetMiyoshi, TokushimaHeike Yashiki Folk MuseumThe house of the Nishioka family, whose ancestor Horikawa Naiki served as physician to Emperor Antoku and, after the fall of the Heike, came into Iya with the survivors, gathering medicinal herbs and treating people. The house, a Miyoshi City Important Tangible Cultural Property, is used as the museum itself, showing the black of the attic and gassho structure produced by nearly 200 years of hearth fires; the exhibits were renewed in 2021, and two osmanthus trees about 800 years old stand in the garden.Official check: 26 Sept 2026

Made of shirakuchi-kazura vines (about 6 tonnes), it is 45 m long, 2 m wide and 14 m above the water, and was once the only means of crossing in these deep mountain valleys; it is rebuilt every three years and is a national Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property (1955). The statue stands at Nanamagari, said to be the hardest part of the road, 200 m above the valley floor; it was made in 1968 by the Tokushima sculptor Yoshiyuki Kawasaki. The houses show "udatsu", fire walls projecting from the second floor between neighbouring houses, tiled and topped with crested ridge-end tiles, a symbol of a house's standing; together with lattice doors and white-walled storehouses they tell of past prosperity. - No photo yetMinami, TokushimaYakuoji Temple (No. 23)Temple No. 23 of the Shikoku pilgrimage, said to have been founded by the priest Gyoki. Its principal image, a Yakushi Nyorai, is said to have been carved by Kobo Daishi; legend says that in a fire in 1188 (Bunji 4) it flew away to Mt. Tamazushi, and when a new image was installed after rebuilding, it flew back and entered the shrine facing backwards, so there came to be two images. It has been deeply revered since Emperor Heizei's time, with visitors in every season and many temple treasures.
