Miyoshi, Tokushima / 平家屋敷民俗資料館
Heike Yashiki Folk Museum
The house of the Nishioka family, whose ancestor Horikawa Naiki served as physician to Emperor Antoku and, after the fall of the Heike, came into Iya with the survivors, gathering medicinal herbs and treating people. The house, a Miyoshi City Important Tangible Cultural Property, is used as the museum itself, showing the black of the attic and gassho structure produced by nearly 200 years of hearth fires; the exhibits were renewed in 2021, and two osmanthus trees about 800 years old stand in the garden.
