Kanonji, Kagawa / 豊稔池堰堤（アーチダム）
Honen-ike Dam
A concrete reservoir dam on the upper Kunita River, whose weathered form recalls a medieval European castle. 145.5 m long and 30.4 m high, gravity-type at both ends with a multiple-arch centre of five arches and six buttresses, it was designated an Important Cultural Property on December 19, 2006 and still supplies water to about 500 ha of farmland. The "yurunuki" water release, held irregularly in summer, is a seasonal tradition.
