Aizumi, Tokushima / 藍の館
Ai no Yakata (Indigo Museum)
Aizumi Town's history museum, opened in 1989 when 13 buildings of the former Okumura residence, a great indigo merchant, and 130,000 Okumura family documents were donated to the town, and renewed in 2022. It preserves the national Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property "Awa indigo cultivation and processing tools" and the Okumura residence, and explains the history and trade of indigo and the process from growing it to making sukumo and dyeing, with paper figures and tools actually used. You can try indigo dyeing with naturally fermented dye.
