Itoshima, Fukuoka / 芥屋の大門
Keya no Oto
Known nationwide as a scenic rock formation in the Genkai Quasi-National Park, with hexagonal and octagonal basalt columns, Keya no Oto is said to be Japan's largest basalt cave (one of Japan's three great basalt caves, with Nanatsugama in Karatsu and Genbudo in Toyooka). The cave is 64 m high, 90 m deep and 10 m wide. From mid-March to November the "Keya no Oto sightseeing boat" lets you see the columns up close.

Bus (Keya line) from the north exit of Chikuzen-Maebaru Station (JR Chikuhi Line) to the Keya terminus, then about 10 minutes on foot (buses are infrequent, so check in advance); about 20 minutes from Maebaru IC (Nishi-Kyushu Expressway).
