Shomyo Falls
A dynamic waterfall with the greatest drop in Japan. In spring snowmelt from the Tateyama mountains adds the "Hannoki Falls" on its right, so two falls tumble side by side; from spring to summer spray rises from the basin, and in autumn the gorge turns red and yellow. The Shomyo-daira rest house near the car park explains the falls with models and videos. You walk from the car park to the falls, so comfortable shoes are recommended, and a raincoat helps because of the spray.
