Tateyama, Toyama / みくりが池
Mikurigaike Pond
A volcanic lake formed about 10,000 years ago, about 630 m around and about 15 m deep, said to be the most beautiful volcanic lake in the Northern Alps. It is covered in deep snow until June in most years, but from July to October its deep blue surface reflects the great mountains. The creeping pines around the shore are the habitat of the ptarmigan, a Special Natural Monument. It is about 10 minutes on foot along a paved path from Murodo Terminal.
