Kurobe Dam
One of Japan's largest dams, built amid the great nature of Kurobe and called "the project of the century" for its scale and unimaginable difficulty. Famous as the tallest dam in Japan at 186 m, it took 7 years, 51.3 billion yen and 10 million workers in total. Its popular sightseeing discharge sends 10 to 15 tonnes of water a second from Japan's highest dam, which you can watch close up from the observation deck, stairs and the new "Rainbow Terrace".

About 16 minutes by electric bus from Ogizawa Station, then about 5 minutes on foot from Kurobe Dam Station; or about 2 hours 45 minutes from Tateyama Station via the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route.
