Nagasaki Peace Park
A park on a low hill north of the Hypocenter Park, made with the vow never to repeat the misery of war and the wish for lasting world peace. The Peace Statue (9.7 m high, bronze, by Kitamura Seibo): the right hand pointing to the sky shows the threat of the atomic bomb, the left hand stretched out shows peace, and the lightly closed eyes pray for the victims. Every August 9 the peace memorial ceremony is held in front of it; the "Fountain of Peace" (18 m across) was built to offer water to the victims.
