Nagasaki, Nagasaki / 長崎新地中華街
Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown
One of Japan's three great Chinatowns with Yokohama and Kobe, less than 10 minutes by tram from JR Nagasaki Station. It was made by reclaiming the sea in the mid-Edo period to build warehouses for goods traded from China; about 40 shops, including Chinese restaurants, Chinese sweets and goods, line a crossroads of about 250 m. Local specialities "champon" and "sara udon" taste different at each shop, and during the Lantern Festival held every winter about 15,000 lanterns decorate the streets.
