Megane Bridge (Spectacles Bridge)
A stone arch bridge said to have been built in 1634 (Kan'ei 11) by the Zen priest Mokusu Nyojo of Kofuku-ji, one of the oldest surviving arch stone bridges. Its name comes from its reflection in the river drawing two circles that look like "megane" (spectacles), and it is counted among Japan's three famous bridges with Nihonbashi in Tokyo and Kintaikyo in Yamaguchi. Partly destroyed in the 1982 Nagasaki flood, it was restored the next year and is a national Important Cultural Property; when the water is low you can go down steps and walk by the water.
