Kashihara, Nara / 橿原神宮
Kashihara Jingu Shrine
Founded in Meiji 23 (1890) at the south-east foot of Mt. Unebi, the place where, according to the Nihon Shoki, Emperor Jimmu built his palace and was enthroned; it enshrines the first emperor and his empress. The main hall (Important Cultural Property) was moved from the Naishidokoro of the Kyoto Imperial Palace, and the sacred grounds cover 530,000 square metres, including a forest park and Fukada Pond.
