Imaicho Historic Townscape
A temple town that grew around the Jodo Shinshu temple Shonen-ji in the Sengoku period and was granted self-government privileges like Sakai in the Edo period, prospering so much that it was said "seven-tenths of Yamato's money is in Imai". Traditional houses and merchant homes from the Edo period crowd an area 600 m by 300 m, eight of them Important Cultural Properties; a national Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.
