Karatsu, Saga / 玄海海中展望塔
Genkai Underwater Observation Tower
Opened on December 1, 1974 (Showa 49) as the only underwater observation tower on the Sea of Japan, connected to Cape Hado by an 86 m pier. The tower is 20 m high and 10 m across; the sea deck looks over the islands of the Genkai Sea on three sides, and from the underwater room 7 m deep, through 24 windows, you can watch about 30 kinds of fish, seaweed and shellfish as they are in nature. Since a renewal on April 1, 2024, projection mapping on the 360-degree ceiling adds a 20-minute show.
