Takaoka, Toyama / 国宝 高岡山瑞龍寺
Zuiryuji Temple (National Treasure)
The family temple of Maeda Toshinaga, founder of Takaoka and second head of the Kaga Maeda family, built by the third head, Maeda Toshitsune, to pray for him. Its grand layout shows the wealth of the 1.2-million-koku Kaga domain. The Sanmon gate, Butsuden and Hatto are National Treasures, and the main gate, meditation hall, kitchen, tea hall and three corridors are Important Cultural Properties; it is highly valued as early-Edo Zen temple architecture, with a lead-tiled Butsuden roof and symmetric corridors.
