Amaharashi Coast
A coast where you can see mountains of about 3,000 m across the sea, a view rarely found anywhere in the world. The Manyo poet Otomo no Yakamochi loved this scenery and wrote many poems about it. The "Yoshitsune-iwa" rock, where Minamoto no Yoshitsune is said to have waited for a shower to clear, is said to be the origin of the name Amaharashi. It is one of Japan's 100 best beaches, and on cold winter mornings you may see "kearashi" sea mist rising.
