Zentsuji, Kagawa / 総本山善通寺
Zentsu-ji Temple
The birthplace of Kobo Daishi Kukai and temple 75 of the Shikoku 88-temple pilgrimage, one of Kobo Daishi's three great sacred sites with To-ji in Kyoto and Koyasan in Wakayama. Its grounds of about 45,000 m² are divided into the eastern "Garan", with the main hall and five-storey pagoda, and the western "Tanjo-in", centred on the Miedo and on the site of the Saeki family residence where he was born.
