Yutoku Inari Shrine
Counted with Fushimi Inari and Kasama Inari among Japan's three great Inari shrines, visited by about 3 million people a year and known locally as "Yutoku-san". Founded in 1687 (Jokyo 4), its main buildings are fully lacquered in vivid vermilion; the main hall stands on a stage 18 m high, taller than Kiyomizu-dera's, reached by about 110 steps with Mt. Sekiheki behind, and it is also called "the Nikko of Chinzei". Higashiyama Park in the outer grounds is famous for azaleas, with 50,000 in bloom in season.
