Ureshino, Saga / 嬉野温泉
Ureshino Onsen
A hot spring with source temperatures of 85-90°C and clear, silky sodium hydrogen carbonate and chloride water. Its history is long: the Hizen no Kuni Fudoki (713) already records a hot spring here. It prospered in the Edo period as a post town on the Nagasaki Kaido, and Siebold visited in 1826 (Bunsei 9); traditional inns line the streets of this historic spa town. After bathing, the recommended local speciality is the melt-in-the-mouth "onsen yudofu".
