Takeo, Saga / 御船山楽園
Mifuneyama Rakuen
A garden at the western foot of Mt. Mifune, whose shape is said to resemble a Chinese ship, laid out over about three years by Nabeshima Shigeyoshi, the 28th lord of Takeo, for his villa; it is a nationally registered monument. In spring 2,000 cherry trees and 200,000 azaleas make a scene against the cliffs reminiscent of a Chinese ink landscape, and in autumn a 170-year-old maple and the colours seen across the pond change between day and night.
