Takeo Shrine and the Great Camphor Tree
The Great Camphor of Takeo, said to be over 3,000 years old and ranked 7th in Japan's list of giant trees, is the sacred tree of Takeo Shrine. Follow the path through a bamboo grove from the main hall to meet it, rooted with overwhelming presence; the deity Tenjin is enshrined at its roots.
