Takeo Onsen Romon Gate
Takeo Onsen is an old hot spring recorded in the Hizen no Kuni Fudoki, said to have begun about 1,300 years ago when Empress Jingu struck the ground with the shaft of her spear. Its symbol is the vermilion-lacquered gate reminiscent of the Dragon Palace, designed by Tatsuno Kingo of Karatsu, architect of Tokyo Station, and built in 1915 (Taisho 4). The source is about 52°C, clear alkaline simple spring water. Behind the gate are the public baths "Motoyu" and "Horaiyu" and the private "Tonosamayu" and "Karoyu".
