Tsuchiyu Onsen and Tsuchiyu-toge Onsen-kyo
A hot spring town in the valley of the Arakawa River, which flows from the Azuma mountains, inside Bandai-Asahi National Park. With over 1,400 years of history and more than 10 types of spring water, it is known as the birthplace of the traditional craft "Tsuchiyu kokeshi" dolls. In the town there are three foot baths using 100% source water, open all year. Further into the mountains is "Tsuchiyu-toge Onsen-kyo", a highland hot spring area at the Tsuchiyu end of the Bandai-Azuma Skyline, with scattered single inns; in late April you can bathe looking at the remaining snow.
