Ibusuki, Kagoshima / 唐船峡そうめん流し
Tosenkyo Somen Nagashi
The birthplace of the rotating "somen nagashi" (flowing noodles), visited by about 200,000 people a year from all over Japan. Somen nagashi using spring water from upstream and bamboo channels began here in 1962 (Showa 37), and the rotating device was registered as a design in 1970 (Showa 45). Using cool, plentiful spring water chosen in 1996 as one of the "100 Water Villages", it serves somen nagashi all year round.
