Tosashimizu, Kochi / 竜串海岸
Tatsukushi Coast
A scenic coast famous for strange rock formations, an eroded platform of sandstone about 20 million years old, designated in 1970 (Showa 45) as Japan's first marine park. At the tip of Cape Chihiro is "Minokoshi", strange rocks said to be so named because even Kobo Daishi left them unseen, the place being so hard to reach. Nearby are the Ashizuri Underwater Observatory, the Ashizuri Aquarium SATOUMI, a shell museum and glass-bottom boats.
