Takachiho Shrine
The head shrine of the 88 shrines of Takachiho, said to date back about 1,900 years to the reign of Emperor Suinin. The main hall, carved with scenes from local legends, is a highly valued building full of local character, and together with the shrine's pair of iron guardian dogs it is a national Important Cultural Property. In the kagura hall, "Takachiho Kagura" is performed every evening all year from 20:00 for one hour, showing four representative dances such as the dance of Tajikarao and the dance of Uzume.
