Takachiho, Miyazaki / 高千穂あまてらす鉄道
Takachiho Amaterasu Railway
A trip of about 30 minutes on an open-top "super cart" through Takachiho, using the facilities of the former Takachiho Railway, closed after typhoon damage in 2005: about 5 km there and back from Takachiho to the Takachiho iron bridge. Parts of the floor are reinforced glass so you can see the track below. The highlight is the view from the bridge, about 105 m high, over the great gorge and the mountains, and the two tunnels on the way are lit with illuminations.
