Yamato, Kumamoto / 幣立神宮（へいたてじんぐう）
Heitate Shrine
A shrine in the Kyushu mountains, revered as the Takamagahara of the age of the gods, keeping many legends and old forms of worship. In the grounds tower old giant trees, including the sacred cypress where the deities Kamurogi and Kamurumi are said to have descended, and the thickly growing Ioe cedar.

By car about 100 minutes from central Kumamoto, 40 minutes from Takachiho Gorge (Miyazaki). By limited express bus (one round trip a day only) from central Kumamoto, Aso Kumamoto Airport or Takamori Station to Mamihara Nakazuru, then about 40 minutes on foot.
