Takamori, Kumamoto / 高森湧水トンネル公園
Takamori Spring Tunnel Park
While digging a tunnel for a former national railway line, workers cut into an underground water source and were flooded; the railway was abandoned because of the volume of water, and the site became this park. The tunnel is 2,055 m long and water flows at 32 tonnes a minute; inside you can see water pouring like waterfalls from the rock and the "Water Pearl" fountain, where drops move strangely. A Tanabata festival is held every July and a "Christmas Fantasy" from mid-November to December.
