Sumoto Castle Ruins
Castle ruins overlooking Sumoto and the blue sea, with Japan's oldest mock castle keep on the summit: not a reconstruction but a reinforced-concrete keep built to commemorate the enthronement of Emperor Showa. It is open free of charge as Mikumayama Park, and on clear days you may see as far as Kansai Airport and Osaka; cherry trees bloom in spring, and the Sumoto Castle Festival is held every November 3.
