One of Japan's largest Jomon settlement sites, with reconstructed pit houses and a huge post building; part of the World Heritage "Jomon Prehistoric Sites in Northern Japan" (2021).

Admission

Site and permanent exhibition: adults 500 yen (groups of 20+: 400), university students 250 yen (200), high school and under free. Special exhibitions cost extra. With a same-day collection ticket stub from the Aomori Museum of Art: 400 / 200 yen. Free for holders of a physical, mental or intellectual disability certificate plus one companion.

Getting there

From JR Aomori Station, about 20 min by car, or city bus bound for Sannai-Maruyama (stop 6, about 30-40 min, 310 yen) or the "Nebutan-go" route bus (west exit stop 2, about 30-40 min, 300 yen) to "Sannai-Maruyama Iseki-mae". From JR Shin-Aomori Station, about 10 min by car or "Nebutan-go" (east exit stop 3, about 15 min, 300 yen). About 30 min by car from Aomori Airport; 5 min from Aomori IC.

Accessibility

Paths are paved, the large reconstructed house has a ramp, and all exhibition rooms are barrier-free. Five wheelchairs, one electric wheelchair and four strollers can be borrowed at the Jomon Jiyukan information desk. Accessible toilets in the Jiyukan and at the car park.
