Aomori Gyosai Center (Furukawa Market)
A market a short walk from Aomori Station, known locally as "Furukawa Market", with scallops from Mutsu Bay and seafood landed that morning. Its speciality is "nokke-don", where you top a bowl of rice with whatever you like: buy meal tickets at the information desk, exchange them for rice at shops with a red sign (1 ticket for a regular bowl, 2 for a large), then exchange tickets for sashimi, side dishes or meat at about 30 shops, and eat in the rest area. Bowls cannot be taken away because they contain raw food, but fish shops will pack sashimi to take home.
