Ohori Park

A waterside park opened in 1929 on an inlet of Hakata Bay that served as the outer moat of Fukuoka Castle. A path of about 2 km around the pond and a wild bird forest are good for jogging, cycling and birdwatching, and on the central island, linked by four bridges, stands the vermilion Ukimido pavilion, the park's symbol. Rental boats and a playground are also available, and at night the waterside and trees on the east of the island are lit up. The grounds also have the Fukuoka Art Museum, a Japanese garden and a Noh theatre.
