Fukuoka Castle Ruins
A castle built over seven years from 1601 (Keicho 6) by Kuroda Nagamasa, who became lord of Chikuzen (520,000 koku) for his service at the Battle of Sekigahara. Most buildings were lost after the Meiji Restoration, but the stone walls and layout remain almost as they were, and it is a national historic site; surviving buildings include the Tamon-yagura turret (Important Cultural Property). In spring the cherry trees are in full bloom.
