Uki, Kumamoto / 三角西港
Misumi West Port
One of the three great ports built in the Meiji era, opened in 1887 (Meiji 20) as a harbour town combining the design of the Dutch water engineer Mulder with the skill of Japanese stonemasons. Registered in 2015 as a World Cultural Heritage site among the "Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution", its 756 m stone wharf, floating pier, drainage channels and relocated or rebuilt buildings are protected and show the scene of the time.
