Otsu, Shiga / 旧竹林院
Former Chikurin-in
One of the "satobo" of Enryakuji, and a temple of high standing within Enryakuji. Its garden, a national Place of Scenic Beauty, centres on a winding stream drawing in the clear Omiya River and borrows Mt. Hachioji as scenery, with undulating hills and stone pagodas and well curbs. Two tea houses and an arbour from the Taisho era are Otsu city cultural properties, and it is lit up in the autumn leaf season.
