Biwako Otsukan (Yanagasaki Lakeside Park)
The main facility of Yanagasaki Lakeside Park, a restored and renovated former Biwako Hotel of 1934, reopened in 2002 as a cultural facility overlooking the lake. Designed by Shinichiro Okada, known for Tokyo's Kabukiza, it was the "guest house of the lake country", where Emperor Showa, Helen Keller and John Wayne stayed. It now has a restaurant cafe and rental halls, and the adjacent English garden has roses and seasonal flowers.
