Asuka, Nara / 石舞台古墳

Ishibutai Kofun, Asuka

A 6th-century tomb built from 30 huge stones, one of Japan's largest stone chambers, left bare after its earth mound was lost; the heaviest ceiling stone weighs about 77 tonnes, and it is widely thought to be the tomb of Soga no Umako.
