Ibukijima Island
Home of "Ibuki iriko", the dried sardines considered the finest for the dashi essential to Sanuki udon, a registered regional brand. Every year on lunar March 21 the "Shima Shikoku" 88-temple island pilgrimage is held, with islanders' traditional hospitality; cherry trees line the approaches to Takinomiya Shrine and the Namikiri Fudo, with a cherry festival on the second Sunday of April.
