Jisho-ji (Ginkaku-ji, Silver Pavilion)
A Rinzai temple of the Shokoku-ji school, converted from Higashiyama-dono, the mountain villa of Ashikaga Yoshimasa (1482). The Silver Pavilion (National Treasure) is a two-storey pavilion, and the Togudo hall (National Treasure) contains the Dojinsai, said to be the prototype of the four-and-a-half-mat tea room. The garden in front of the main hall has two sand forms, the Ginshadan and the Kogetsudai. Part of the World Heritage "Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto" (1994).
