Heian Jingu Shrine
A shrine founded in 1895 (Meiji 28) for the 1,100th anniversary of the move of the capital to Heian-kyo, enshrining Emperors Kanmu and Komei. Its vermilion Otenmon gate and Daigokuden hall are modelled on the main hall of the Heian-kyo palace. The shrine garden (Place of Scenic Beauty), about 30,000 square metres, is divided into four gardens, and the Jidai Matsuri procession is held on October 22.
