Chion-in Temple
Head temple of the Jodo sect, standing where Honen, its founder, spread the nembutsu teaching and passed away; its vast buildings were formed with the support of Tokugawa Ieyasu, Hidetada and Iemitsu. The Sanmon gate (National Treasure, 1621) is one of Japan's largest wooden two-storey gates, and the Miedo hall (National Treasure, rebuilt 1639) finished about nine years of repairs in April 2020. The morning service starts at 6:30 every day.
