Futami Okitama Shrine (Meoto Iwa)
A shrine enshrining Sarutahiko-no-Okami. The "Meoto Iwa" (wedded rocks) seen in front are regarded as a torii for worshipping the sacred "Okitama Shinseki" rock, about 700 m offshore, and the sun. By old custom, pilgrims purified themselves in the sea at Futamiura before visiting the Jingu ("Hama-sangu"), and many still visit this shrine first. Many frog figures, messengers of Sarutahiko, are offered in the grounds.
